JUTTA MICHELS
Germany
Jutta Michels, born on April 10, 1962 in Düsseldorf, began her artistic career in 1986 by studying design technology at the Leibniz University of Hanover. The main focus of her studies was color and spatial design as well as architecture.
After successfully completing his studies with the 1st state examination in 1992 and the 2nd state examination in 1994, Michels held various teaching positions in the fields of art, design, interior design and architecture until 2022.
While she was still a student, she was a co-founder of the art group NIC. In 1990, the art group received the special art prize from the district of Verden in the area of installation, plastic and sculpture in the Etelsen castle park.
In 2000, Michels opened her own studio in Ahausen and ran a children's painting school there until 2012. She has participated in several exhibitions and competitions, including the Verden Art Fair in Verden Town Hall, and was featured in the first Verden Art Calendar in 2001.
In 2005, she initiated and directed the first Rotenburg Painting Night, an event that promoted artistic exchange. Since 2006, Michels has regularly participated in international workshops in Germany, Poland and the Ukraine, which has enriched and expanded her artistic work. From 2007 to 2014, she was also involved in the organizing team of the "Ahauser Herbst" and thus made a significant contribution to the annual cultural mile in Ahausen.
Her works are characterized by a deep examination of the complexity of existence. Michels develops her own language of color and form and plays with the interaction of opaque and transparent layers of color. Penetrating, deeper layers of color and formal elements create overlaps and enter into an exciting dialogue with the superficial level, giving her works spatial depth and subtle irritations. This technique invites the viewer to look closely, discover details and develop their own interpretations.
