Edward Szatkowski
Poland
Edward Szatkowski graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts in Jelenia Góra – Zdrój. From 1976 to 1979 he took part in open-air artistic events. Most of his works are sacred sculptures, which can be seen in Białogard, Darłowo, Czaplinek, Koszalin, Szczecin and in churches in many other places. These include individual statues of saints, Stations of the Cross and altars. A four-meter-high sculpture - the figure of a fisherman - was made on behalf of the Czaplinek municipality and decorates the Czaplinek market square.
The artist can point to a number of group exhibitions:
- Exhibition of the “Group of Young Artists”,
- in the art gallery “Pod Strzechą” in Poniatowice,
- in the Piwnica Świdnicka in Wrocław in 1983,
- in the Gallery Hall 108 in Stargard Szczeciński,
- as well as in Germany, Poznan, Gdansk and Mirosławiec.
The ARS POPULI Association intends to submit the artist's candidacy in 2007 for the ARS POPULI statuette - the award in the name of Władysław Hasior.
And the hammer in the master’s hand just shimmered in the sun – revealing the mysterious shapes of the wood.
