Rafał Mielczarek
POLAND
Who is Rafał Mielczarek?
Born in 1980 in Gdansk, Poland. In 2005 graduated from The State school of arts in Gdynia, Poland. For the next ten years I worked as a graphic designer
and photographer.
In 2015, I emigrated to Malta to become a freelance draftsman artist. From 2022 I do work as a photographer and videomaker for University of Gdansk.
Main form of expression are pencil drawings and analog photography. Main subjects, architecture and landscape, are subjectively transformed and cleansed from any human presence/dehumanized. The oneiric scenery, where only some mysterious creatures dwell, oozessilence, emptiness and abandonment.
The absence of strong lights or contrasting shadows create a foggy and desolated reality, taken from the world of dreams and inspired by the colourlessness of the night itself.
"I do art to recreate liminal atmosphere of my dreams"
