Who is Magdalena Wozniak Melissourgaki?

Magdalena Wozniak Melissourgaki is a Greek artist with Polish roots who combines classical painting tradition with contemporary sensibility. Her works exist in the tension between realism and emotional interpretation – between the visible and the felt.

Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (Faculty of Graphic Arts, Master's degree) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the fields of painting and multimedia techniques, she developed a strong artistic style early on. Even as a young girl, she successfully participated in numerous art competitions. After her studies, she moved to Greece, where she further developed her talent, among other things, in the artistic circle of Botis Thalassinos.

In her painting, Magdalena focuses particularly on portraiture. For her, the eyes are "windows to the soul"—she understands art not as a mere depiction of reality, but as a mirror of emotion. Her works are created in oil, pastel, charcoal, and other media. Characteristic of her work is the interplay between classical form and modern interpretation: A motif initially appears realistic, but unfolds on a second level an expressive, emotionally charged dimension.

A central theme in her recent series of works is the motif of the window – as a metaphor for light, hope, and the future. Through pairings of realistic and emotionally abstract works, she explores the relationship between tradition and modernity. Light entering dark spaces becomes a symbol of inner reflection and transformation.

In addition to her own artistic practice, Magdalena is active internationally: She is a co-organizer and jury president of the Aegean Arts International Festival in Crete, a member of international art initiatives, a curator, and an ambassador for cultural programs. Her works are held in private and institutional collections in Europe and North America.

As an art educator and art therapist, she is also committed to passing on sensitivity, emotion, and aesthetic awareness to the next generation. For her, art is the most universal language in the world – a language that connects, soothes, and opens the imagination.

Magdalena lives and works in Crete.
