Who is Jochen Cerny?
Jochen Cerny was born in Düsseldorf and discovered his passion for photography at an early age. Influenced by his grandmother, a passionate black-and-white photographer, and his father, who worked with renowned advertising photographers, he developed a special eye for visual impact and aesthetics early on. After completing his law studies, his career path initially led him into international investment banking in New York, London, and Frankfurt.
A reunion with his childhood friend, the internationally renowned photographer Andreas Gursky, encouraged him to return to a deep engagement with photographic art and to develop his own visual language.
At the heart of his work is the CMPB technique he developed, which combines various digital post-production processes and targeted color manipulation without completely dissolving the original subject.
His more recent work goes even further. Through the interplay of exposure time, camera movement, and aperture, he creates works that increasingly resemble abstract paintings. This digital photopainting combines photography with painterly expression, transforming existing subjects into new, autonomous visual worlds.
True to his guiding principle "Color creates atmosphere," the focus is less on classical narratives and more on color, form, perception, and atmosphere.
Cerny's works have received numerous international awards and have been presented and sold in Germany, London, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and New York, among other places. Today, his work is held in private and corporate collections across Europe and Asia.
