Who is Carsten Breuer?
Carsten Breuer – between Pop Art, digital imagery and
analog energy
Carsten Breuer's art moves in the field of tension between Pop Art,
graphic design, and abstract expressionism. His works emerge from images
of our media-saturated present: well-known personalities, cultural
icons, and familiar motifs are taken up, deconstructed, layered,
and placed into a new visual context by him.
Characteristic of this is the interplay of precision
and spontaneity. Breuer combines techniques such as screen printing and graphic
pictorial elements with expressive brushstrokes, overpainting, drips, and
deliberate ruptures. Printed structures meet free gestures, controlled
composition meets apparent chaos. Particularly formative is his intense
world of color: pink, orange, yellow, and luminous neon tones
give his works an immediate presence and high recognizability.
A central role is played by Breuer's professional background in graphic design,
advertising, and visual communication. However, the digital image is not
the end product for him, but often the starting point. He transfers
digitized motifs back into the physical world and transforms pixels,
photographs, and media images through color, layering, and manual processing
into analog, haptic works of art.
For Breuer, it is not just about aesthetics. His
works deal with memory, media, fame, power, history,
and the transience of cultural images. By alienating familiar motifs
and detaching them from their accustomed context, he challenges the viewer
to question their meaning anew. In his work, pop culture is simultaneously
celebrated and viewed critically.
The result is an art that at first glance has an impact through color,
energy, and visual power and, upon closer inspection, reveals a deeper level.
Breuer's works combine nostalgia and the present, digital culture and
analog craftsmanship, order and rebellion – a contemporary interpretation
of Pop Art with an unmistakably personal signature.
